Extra Curricula Learning

We believe in the holistic education of our students. Our Mission states that we "create opportunities for students to encounter life in all its richness". We are proud to offer a number of extra curricula activities and opportunities for students in our school.

Some of these include:

Sacraments

The Celebration of the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and First Eucharist are offered every year. Confirmation is offered every second year.

Dance

Students from R-7 participate in weekly creative dance lessons. These form the basis of our school concert held in term three. The school sports uniform is worn for dance lessons. Karen McCulloch, a very well-known and experienced Dance Instructor on the Copper Coast takes classes for their Dance lessons.

At the end of Term 3 our school produces a School Concert. All classes are involved in the concert and months of planning and practice ensure it is a very professional and exciting show.

Sport

Students at St Mary MacKillop are provided with numerous opportunities to become involved in Sporting activities. Throughout the year students take part in NYPSASSA (Northern Yorke Peninsula), SAPSASA (South Australian Schools) and SACPSSA (South Australian Catholic Schools) sporting carnivals. From here many of our students are often picked in representative teams.

Children participate in a variety of coaching clinics throughout the year including Football, Golf, Cricket, Netball, Lawn Bowls, Croquet and Beach Volleyball.

St Mary MacKillop School Sports Day is a highlight of the year. Children are placed in one of the three sports teams - WOODS, MACKILLOP or TAPPEINER. Siblings are placed in the same team. It is a day full of action, fun, colour and friendly rivalry.

Choir

St Mary MacKillop School has three very active choirs that are often called on to perform at community functions.

The UP Choir is comprised of children from Years 5-7. They practise weekly in preparation to join other Catholic Schools in the Catholic Schools Music Festival and perform at the Festival Theatre on stage during Term 3.

The St Mary MacKillop Singers are made up of Years 3 - 7 students who perform at regular community events.

The Junior Primary Choir is comprised of Reception to Year 2 students who are interested in learning about what a choir does and how we use our voices together to sing in a choir.
